An oh so sweet dose of honesty.

Back in June last year, Tonight is Goodbye announced to the world that they would be no more. As a band who toured relentlessly, they spent the best part of three years working hard to create a name for themselves as an important part of the UK pop-punk circuit. However, after their tour supporting Aiden was cut short last summer, it seemed there was more going on behind the scenes than many people realised. A few short weeks later, and the news was broken.

Yet, amongst this sad news, lay a new and exciting prospect: Futures. Three of the band's members would be joining forces once more, along with a brand new bassist, to create one of the freshest sounding and highly-anticipated bands to grace the modern UK scene.

Ant West, Casey Roarty, George Lindsay, and new member Christian Ward quickly began the hard work, with the band quietly writing songs in their hometowns near London. They even managed to squeeze in ten or so shows, in the second half of 2009, including a slot at Rocksound's In The City event, showcasing Futures as a brand new favourite for the music press.

But with Tonight Is Goodbye still visible in the minds of most fans, what has it been like to start again? "It feels totally fresh. The whole line-ups changed, we've just written a new album, so everything feels fresh again," says guitarist and vocalist Ant West. "It feels good. It feels better, and we're happy."

So happy in fact, that they've already managed to complete a set of songs for their upcoming release 'The Holiday' EP, as well as an entire collection of songs for their second album. "It felt like the most natural thing to do. We had lots of time off from not touring. Before, in a lot of the bands we were in, there was a lot of tension when we were writing. Now, everything feels a lot more natural. We're all super psyched about what we're writing, and we all have our say, rather than one person sitting and hating it, but not speaking up about it for a couple of weeks. Now, we've written about eighteen songs that we're all really happy with."

And for bassist Christian Ward, the transition into the band has been nothing but comfortable: "This doesn't feel odd; it feels just right. I couldn't have asked for a better band, playing music that I like. I'm just happy that I'm playing music that I want to be playing."

After adding the finishing touches to their new EP, the band set off around the country, first playing alongside Boys Like Girls and Cobra Starship, before heading out on their first headlining tour. It was in the middle of this tour that an interesting announcement was made. 'The Holiday' was originally set to be given away as a free download, via their website www.wearefutures.co.uk. "We did choose to give it away for free initially", explains guitarist Casey Roarty, "because we couldn't be bothered to wait around anymore. We knew that if we'd had to wait around for a proper release with a label, everything would've been held back." "We wouldn't have written the new record", adds West.

However - as if their 9/10 rating wasn't enough - RockSound Magazine approached the band with a different idea, asking if they could debut the EP on the cover of their March 3rd issue. "They got in contact a few days ago, and had seen that we were releasing it for free," West tells us. "So, their editor just asked if we wanted it to go on the front [of the magazine] and we weren't gonna turn that down. It happened really quickly, so we're pretty pumped! It's a huge opportunity for us."

And the good news just keeps on rolling in for Futures, with Kerrang scoring their debut with 4 Ks, while Punktastic.com have said that, "this EP is going to set them apart from all of the more established acts doing this kind of thing."

If there's any band right now to get involved with, it seems to be this one. With album number two well on it's way to our ears, nothing seems to be slowing down Futures, and in our opinion, that's only going to be a great thing"

Futures' new EP 'The Holiday' will be available with March 3rd's issue of Rocksound Magazine.
